Hi, I went to Borneo recently. I seems many orchids had already bloomed, but I did see a few, not all wild though. Bako - found growing at the beginning of the trail. -edited- No Bulbo., Thecopus secunda is the correct ID. Bario - the place we stayed at had some growing in their garden. I found two buds on a plant, and the day after they had opened. Looks like Bulbophyllum ecornutum. I have seen photos earlier of what seems to be this particular plant. No flowers this time, but some seed pods were present. -edit- possibly B. xiphion. A Cirrhopetalum type species were the flower was past its prime. This is probably B. obtusum, and the plants were found growing near the base of small trees. -edit- Correct name is B. concinnum. Regards, Christer

very nice photos! do you know the name of the first one? looks quite special.
the third one could be a species of the section Hirtula.
seems you had a nice trip!

Hi Max,
Sorry for the late reply. I have been in contact with Dr. Vermeulen regarding the identity of two of the plants. It is not strange that you don't recognize the first one, because it turn out it is not even a Bulbophyllum.
Thecopus secunda is the correct name. Also the B. obtusum is in reality B. concinnum.
I didn't ask about the weird Bulbo, but I found photos on the internet of B. xiphion which appears to be the same one.
Regards,
Christer

thanks! yeah, B. xiphion is a goof guess! when I wrote to vermeueln during the last days, he told me that he now finished his complete revision of the bulbophyllums of borneo. (279 taxa). The book will be for sale soon.
