Hey everyone, This is one of my favourite species, It's a very small plant with long flower spikes. It blooms 2-3 times a year for me and like most Bulbo's it likes it shady, warm and moist. This plant also confuses me, I got it labelled as this but have doubts about it. The only problem is I can't seem to find a species of var. that fits. Linda, your plant is stunning but looks pretty different, any ideas on this one? Bulbophyllum saltatorium var albociliatum

The saltatorium specie is very variable in colour and size.
A guess of mine is that you have either a semi alba form of Bulbophyllum saltatorium var. calamarium or just a darker form of B. saltatorium var albociliatum

Thanks Linda. I think I might just have to accept it as what it is labelled.
I should have posted a picture of the entire inflorescence, the flowers fairly spaced apart which made me rule out a bunch of species that are similar, thanks again for the help!

I had seen this photo on my phone, and on my phone it looked quite bland. Now having a chance to look at it on a computer it is quite the nice little flower! It would probably make for a cool time lapse sequence.
How big is the inflorescence Justin and how many flowers total?

I thought you might check the forums on your phone because you're always near the top of the list, I do the same thing The flowers aren't very large, maybe 1cm-1.5cm Heres a picture for reference. There was 15 or 16 flowers on this spike and thats pretty normal.

Yup iPhones are great for viewing the forums!
Thanks for the photo, they're larger than I thought they would be.

Do you have J.J. Vermeulens monograph?
I have a Bulbo. saltatorium which I am not completely sure what variant it is, and I have tried to compare it with the ones in the monograph. Apparently even Isobyl LaCroix has admitted that Vermeulen's keys are not easy to follow sometimes.
From what I understand it is the how far the hairs goes around the lip which is a key decider in Bulbo. salt. var. albociliatum, and Bulbo. salt. var calamarium. With that said when I was trying to ID my plant, I still had problems to see the mentioned differences in his drawings. I may have to take another read to see if it becomes clearer this time around.
Regards,
Christer
