I got this plant years ago from Paramount Orchids a Canadian nursery. The plant was sold as Bulbo rothschildianum if I remember correctly but to me it looks like a Bulbo fascinator or Bulbo rothschildianum crossed with maybe Bulbo putidum. The lip looks like Bulbo putidum but the appendages on the dorasl and lateral sepals are far too numerous for this to be Bulbo putidum. So what do you think is this most likely a hybrid? Here is a photo of the plant in bloom last week. Mike

Not exactly sure, it may just be the pic but it looks very dark. Is it more purple or red? I would guess Bulbo Fascination...

It really is that dark purple on the lip and the appendages, not the reddish colour you would expect from Bulbo rothschildianum so I have my doubts that species is involved. The lateral sepals of my plant are not very long at all so I don't think that Bulbo longissimum would be one of the parents. There is only a cm or two of the flower that is not shown in the photo. I guess I will just keep it tagged as unknown hybrid then because it really does not fit the descriptions of any of the species it resembles.

Well that certainly does resemble my plant other the the red vs purple colouration but colour alone is not enough to base a decision on. Thanks for the link.

I take it you already read over Bills section in his book over and over again? lol it does look very similar to that picture but the column does look a little different but that really could just be the picture eh? If I remember I'll show it to Claudio and I'm sure he'll be able to give you a better answer.
